A Perfect Balance of Geometrical Shapes

Drum is specifically designed to illuminate the working area of a desk without obstructing the user. Its lampshade, made of several compressed sheets of ironwood with a glossy varnish finish, directs the light upward and downward, creating the perfect lighting environment for focused tasks.

What sets Drum apart is its single polished steel leg, positioned off-center from the lampshade. This design choice adds a touch of uniqueness and sophistication to the lamp. The leg is controlled by a ticking switch mechanism, located at the bottom of the lampshade, resembling a plumbline that measures the weight between the two elements.

The construction of the lampshade is a testament to the designer's attention to detail and craftsmanship. Four layers of ironwood sheets are rolled together using negative pressure, ensuring both mechanical strength and dimensional stability. The delicate finishing between the wood and the acrylic top and bottom adds to the lamp's overall aesthetic appeal.

Drum is best suited for desks and tables, but it can also be used as a bedside lamp. It is operated by a ticking switch that hangs from the base of the lampshade, providing a seamless and intuitive user experience.

Designed and realized in Porto, Portugal, Drum was the result of extensive research and experimentation. The challenge lay in creating the four-layered lampshade in the desired circular shape. Through perseverance and multiple attempts, the technique was perfected, resulting in a visually stunning and functional lamp.

Drum has received recognition for its outstanding design. In 2015, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
